The British manufacturer began Lotus car sales of sports and racing cars nearly sixty years ago. The company designs and builds race and production automobiles that are light weight and handle superbly. All the cars are hand-built and use an aluminium chassis, lightweight materials, and finely tuned suspension to ensure instantaneous response time and inspired handling.
The manufacturer revealed five new models to be produced over the next five years at the 2010 Paris Motor Show. The cars come in coupe or convertible depending on the buyers desire. In addition to these five high performance vehicles, a hybrid electric car is also on the drawing board.
Two new models due out in 2013 are the Esprit and the Elan. The Esprit will sport a V8 engine and will be capable of going from 0-60 mph in less than four seconds. The Elan is scheduled for debut in the latter half of 2013. It will have a V6 engine, and it will only weigh 2855 pounds.
In the Spring of 2014, the Elite will be out. The Elite will feature a V8 engine, and it will go from 0-60 mph in less than four seconds. This could also be the time frame that the Evora 414E Hybrid may come to fruition. This will be a hybrid with power, because it not only has one electric motor, it has two. One for each rear wheel. Lotus in using sound synthesis systems to make this hybrid roar instead of purring like other hybrids.
The New Elise is replacing the older model in 2015. It will sport a two liter engine that will hit 60 mph in under five seconds. The Eterne will also come out in 2015, and is a four door sports car with a five liter, V8 engine.
With the revelation of the new models, Lotus car sales are sure to increase. With the stretch into hybrid manufacturing, the manufacturer seems willing to change with the times. But the company isn't likely to stray far from its bread and butter: speed and handling.
